Halloween 2014 I: Planning

Last year for Halloween, I was Nefertiti.  The week before the first event of the season, I had a change of heart and wanted to be Wonder Woman.  I talked myself out of it (I barely finished Nefertiti in time, so I couldn't have imagined starting an entirely new costume under such a time crunch), but the idea has been kicking around in my head since then, and I decided I would follow through this year.

While the traditional Wonder Woman costume is essentially a swimsuit, that really isn't going to cut it for my needs.  Aside from the fact that I don't have the confidence to wear that in public, I wouldn't be able to get away with wearing that to work.  Old school WW does wear a skirt or skorts, and occasionally would in the Lynda Carter TV series as well.  Skirt it is.  I think I'll go more daring than usual and make it above my knee.

That'd take care of the lower half, but strapless doesn't work for me either.  I don't have the proper assets to pull it off, and again, needs to be work appropriate.  My co-workers properly wouldn't be too pleased if my cupcakes popped out.  So it looks like I will be needing straps as well.

Other things to add: a lasso, bracelets, a tiara, and perhaps a cape.

  1. I can't do strapless either, it likes to fall down. Maybe you could change up the era, like make it Victorian with full blouse and bustle skirt in the right colours and patterns or 1950s with a circle skirt. That'd be really cool!

    1. I think 1950s is going to be the look I go for. Great minds think alike?

  2. If you wanted to get obscure, in the 70s Wonder Woman lost her powers for a while. During that period she wore jumpsuits.

    1. Obscure is one of the things I wanted to avoid this year, since people though Nefertiti was Cleopatra, Jareth was Rod Stewart, Poe was a pirate, and no clue on Columbia.

I've heard DC removed her powers to try to appeal to the women's movement, but it caused quite a backlash, and they were reinstated.

  3. I made a corset for a friend to complete her World War pilot inspired WW costume not too long ago-- that is an idea too, heheh.

The most I have done for planning of the coming festivities is budgeting for a shopping spree again, hehe.

  5. Maybe attach a cape onto straps at the top/front of your shoulders, a la Thor (minus the big gold circles)? I can't wait to see what you come up with!

    1. I was thinking that if I could find some star-shaped buttons, I could attach the cape at the top of the shoulders and make it removable.

  6. Your costumes are always something to look forward to! Can't wait to see what you come up with. It's going to be tough to top Nefertiti!
