Halloween 2014 III: Hair

I am unsure what I should do about my hair for this costume.  Wonder Woman's hair is long, black, and wavy or curly.  Mine is only one of the three (long).  The front of mine is currently neon pink and the back is the natural dark brown.  It's also stick-straight and won't hold a curl.  These complications strongly suggest wearing a wig, but I find them somewhat uncomfortable, and I think a wig with a tiara is going to be even worse.

I've already broken tradition by adding straps and a skirt, so not being accurate isn't really much of an issue.

Suggestions from the peanut gallery?

  1. That's tough, for sure...
What about just dying your hair temporarily? As long as it's black, I think people will get it lol

    1. I've used the color rinses before, back when I was a teenager and my parents wouldn't let me dye my hair with a permanent or semi-permanent dye. They smell AWFUL.

The problem with using a semi-permanent dye is that I'd have to rebleach my hair to do the pink again. I'd prefer not to damage my hair that much. Still, probably preferable to a wig.

  2. My hair is the same way, stick straight and won't curl. Unless I braid my hair. Have you tried braiding it while it is damp and letting it air dry? When you let it down, put on some hair spray if needed and voila! Gorgeous waves.

    1. If I braid my hair in the morning, just after I get out of the shower, and leave it that way until the next morning, it turns out crimpy. Now that you mention it though, I might try doing it up in a bunch of buns and see how that goes. Thanks for the idea. Hair experiment!

  3. Depending on how much of your hair is pink, maybe some type of clip-in hair piece would hide it? The tiara would cover the front hairline.

Maybe hair chalk if it comes in black or dark brown? It's supposed to be temporary.

Or dye the pink hair red to match the outfit. ;)

    1. I think it's too much for a clip-in, but hair chalk might work.

Red would be cool, but I'd still have to bleach it out to get the pink back. Or just let it fade.

  4. I wasn't a fan of wigs until I got one that actually FIT. It's a hell of a lot easier to just put some hair on than it is to get black out of pink.

    1. I got mine at a local wig shop, had to buy a wig cap but then try-on was free. I have a little bitty pin head, so finding one that wasn't huge was key. Your mileage may vary. Give it a spin- it's an interesting afternoon, and people who sell wigs can probably help you figure out why they're uncomfortable for you.

    2. Ooh, I also have a teeny, tiny head, and thought wigs were hopeless for me (as are off-the-rack hats, apparently). I didn't now you could try them on in a real-life wig shop. This might be a life-changing revelation.

    3. I have a narrow face (so narrow that I wear children's glasses frames), but a long head, so off the rack hats tend to fit weirdly (but this doesn't stop me, because I LOVE HATS). I will try to find a local wig shop in my copious free time.

  5. Pink hair? Punk wonderwoman! Some big earrings, chain from nose to ear, buckly boots and spiked bracelets!

    1. The boots I got are platforms, and I was planning on doing fishnets anyway. I've got a blue nose ring, and a gold one, and loads of chunky earrings. I think you might be onto something. :) thanks for the idea.
